Familie Butnariu

Dear all,

I haven't found much yet in my search for the Romanian branch of my family. What I do have is a copy of the birth certificate of my grandfather, Neculai Butnariu, from the town hall of Barlad in Tutova County. It is record number 752 from the year 1869. It states that his father was Stephan and his mother was Elena. I do not know Elena's surname.
However, I did find a marriage record online for Elena Stefan Butnariu; I suspect she might be my grandfather's sister. Can anyone tell me more about this? I have been unable to find her birth certificate.

It is record number 752 from the year 1869.

It might just be a typo in your message, but the birth certificate is from 1896, not 1869.

The age of Ștefan Butnariu matches: 38 in 1896 and 45 in 1903. Elena was 34 in 1896 and 40 in 1903, which also fits. The occupation of Ștefan is slightly different: "cultivatoriu" (farmer) in 1896 and "croitor" (tailor) in 1903, but this doesn't necessarily mean it's a different person. I would say there's a good chance that Elena is your grandfather's sister.

Yes, it was indeed 1896; sorry for the mistake.
As far as I can make out from the marriage record, Elena's birth record is number 265 from 1880, from Barlad.
Do you have any idea where I might find this online? It could be the final piece of the puzzle.
